You can find items in Addison located in either Special Collections in Newman Library or our remote storage facility with a status of IN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS. This indicates the item can only be used within Special Collections reading room. Items in storage will be delivered to Special Collection instead of the usual circulation desk, and you'll get the usual notification when the item is ready to use.
Most items in Special Collections cannot be checked out; they are rare or one of a kind materials that may also require special handling.
You can contact Special Collections in advance to have materials pulled and waiting for you. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 540-231-6308. Special Collections regular hours are weekdays 8:00am to 5:00pm, though you can also arrange appointments to use the facilities outside these hours.
Some materials can be photocopied. Ask Special Collection staff if that will be possible for the materials you are using.
